Loudoun’s 2017 Varsity Football Season Schedule

Loudoun teams kick off the 2017 varsity football season Aug. 25. Briar Woods, Heritage, Loudoun County, Loudoun Valley, Park View, Potomac Falls, Riverside, Tuscarora and Woodgrove will play home games to start the season. The regular season continues for 11 weeks through Nov. 3.

Woodgrove alum Cole earns Patriot League softball accolades

Lehigh University senior Ashley Cole earned unanimous selection by league coaches to the 2017 All-Patriot League softball first team as a designated player. The Woodgrove High School alum was also a second-team selection as an outfielder.

VHSL Group 4A All-State softball team

Woodgrove High School swept top honors on the 2017 Virginia High School League Group 4A All-State softball team. Junior pitcher Camryn Dolby is the Player of the Year and Joe Spicer is the Coach of the Year after the Wolverines won a second consecutive state championship. Freedom, Loudoun County and Loudoun Valley are also represented on the all-state team.

Woodgrove tops Freedom to claim fourth state softball crown

Since the inception of their softball program in 2011, the Woodgrove Wolverines have grown accustomed to winning a state title every even year - claiming crowns in 2012, 2014 and 2016. Woodgrove broke the mold in 2017.

Briar Woods High School baseball, Briar Woods boys' soccer, Potomac Falls girls' lacrosse, Riverside boys' soccer, Riverside boys' lacrosse, Rock Ridge boys' tennis and Woodgrove softball capped stellar seasons Saturday by winning Virginia High School League state championships.

Super Saturday: Seven Loudoun teams win state championships

It was a day to remember for seven Loudoun varsity teams Saturday as Briar Woods (baseball, boys soccer), Potomac Falls (girls lacrosse), Riverside (boys soccer, boys lacrosse), Rock Ridge (boys tennis) and Woodgrove (softball) claimed Virginia High School League state championships.

The Woodgrove Wolverines and the Freedom Eagles will meet again in the Virginia 4A state softball championship Saturday in Salem. Woodgrove defeated Freedom 3-0 a week prior in the 4A West Region championship game.—Times-Mirror/Rick Wasser

Eleven Loudoun teams to play for state titles Saturday

Loudoun County Public Schools will be represented by 11 teams in Virginia High School League state championship games Saturday. Local teams will vie for state supremacy in baseball, lacrosse, soccer, softball and tennis.

The Woodgrove Wolverines have advanced to the regional softball championship game in each of their seven seasons since the Purcellville school opened for the 2010-2011 school year. Making that feat more impressive is the fact Woodgrove is now 7-0 in regional title games.

Loudoun’s Regional Playoffs Scoreboard: June 2 games

Eight Loudoun varsity teams won regional tournament championships Friday evening. Riverside (baseball, boys' lacrosse, girls' lacrosse) and Briar Woods (baseball, boys' soccer) both collected multiple regional titles, while Rock Ridge (boys' tennis), Stone Bridge (boys' lacrosse) and Woodgrove (softball) each won one championship.

Loudoun’s Varsity Playoff Schedule: June 2 games

A total of 14 varsity teams from Loudoun will play in 5A North, 4A West, 4A North or 3A East regional championship games Friday. Varsity teams from Briar Woods, Dominion, Freedom, Riverside, Rock Ridge, Stone Bridge, Tuscarora and Woodgrove high schools will be in action.

In a match-up of conference tournament champions, John Champe defeated Woodgrove 5-1 in the 4A West Region girls' soccer tournament quarterfinals Monday night in Aldie. Making its fourth consecutive regional playoff appearance, Champe advanced to the semifinals Wednesday versus Jefferson Forest.

Woodgrove covers all bases in regional softball win

The Woodgrove Wolverines kept their perfect record alive by outlasting the visiting Fauquier Falcons 5-0 in the 4A West Region softball tournament quarterfinals May 29 in Purcellville.

Loudoun’s 4A West Region Playoff Scoreboard: May 29 games

The Freedom Eagles won 4A West Region tournament quarterfinal games in baseball, softball, boys tennis and girls tennis Monday. Heritage (boys soccer), John Champe (girls soccer), Loudoun County (softball, girls soccer), Rock Ridge (boys tennis) and Woodgrove (softball) also prevailed in quarterfinal games.

Dulles West lacrosse team selections

Woodgrove senior Grant Ammann and Riverside sophomore Taylor Musa shared Player of the Year honors on the 2017 All-Dulles West boys' lacrosse team, while Riverside senior Rachel Glachinta is the Player of the Year on the girls' team.
