Hockey night in Loudoun: Briar Woods, Stone Bridge, Woodgrove put wins on ice

The puck didn’t drop for Friday evening’s first game until almost 9:30. By midnight, the Ashburn Ice House had hosted three Northern Virginia Scholastic Hockey League contests involving six Loudoun high schools.

The Heritage Pride claimed the team title and Woodgrove's River Stone won the all-around crown in the elite Red Division at the 2018 Park View Gymnastics Invitational, contested Saturday in Sterling.

Three area players selected on ALL-USA Virginia football team

Stone Bridge senior WR Daniel Thompson, Tuscarora junior OL Will Moore and Woodgrove junior TE Ben Castellano earned second-team accolades on the 2017 American Family Insurance ALL-USA Virginia football team, presented by USA TODAY.

The Tuscarora Huskies defeated the Woodgrove Wolverines 75-54 in non-district girls' basketball action Dec. 15 in Leesburg. Isabellah Middleton scored 25 points, while her sister Kennedy Middleton netted a double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds for the host Huskies.

Freedom wins team title at LCPS Wrestling Championships

The Freedom Eagles soared to the top of the podium at the 2017 Loudoun County Public Schools Wrestling Championships for a third consecutive year Saturday at Rock Ridge High School in Ashburn. Freedom placed eight wrestlers in the championship match of their weight class on its way to racking up 305 points.

Woodgrove’s Erb to play volleyball at Christopher Newport

Woodgrove High School senior Maddie Erb has committed to continue her education and volleyball career at Christopher Newport University in 2018. Erb earned all-district and all-region accolades in 2017.

Region 4C football team selections

Dominion, Heritage, Loudoun County, Loudoun Valley, Riverside and Woodgrove high schools are each represented on the 2017 All-Region 4C football team. Region champion Sherando swept top honors with the top offensive and defensive players, as well as coach of the year.

Region 4C volleyball team selections

Heritage, Loudoun County and Woodgrove high schools are each represented on the 2017 All-Region 4C volleyball team. Millbrook outside hitter Victoria Johnson is the Player of the Year and Carla Milton of Millbrook is the Coach of the Year.

Loudoun Valley makes history with perfect score at Class 4 cross-country meet

His golden jersey flapping in the chilly Piedmont breeze, Loudoun Valley’s Sam Affolder picked up his pack-leading pace and accelerated toward the finish line. He could see red numbers ahead of him, the finish-line clock ticking up the time since he and 103 others began their five-kilometer run.

Dulles District football team selections

Loudoun County junior quarterback Nick Barts and Dominion senior defensive lineman Jayde Pierre are the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year on the 2017 All-Dulles District football team. Loudoun County's Tony Rayburn is the Coach of the Year after guiding the Raiders to a seven-win season and first playoff bid since 2014.

Woodgrove’s Keilty nets 450th coaching victory

Woodgrove High School recently honored volleyball coach Carmel Keilty on earning her 450th career victory. Keilty has guided the volleyball programs at Loudoun Valley, Heritage and Woodgrove during her 28-year coaching career.

District volleyball playoffs scoreboard

The Loudoun County Raiders and the Stone Bridge Bulldogs each won district volleyball tournament championships Thursday night. Stone Bridge outlasted Tuscarora in five sets in the Potomac District final and Loudoun County swept Heritage in the Dulles District title match.

Loudoun Valley, Tuscarora race to regional cross-country titles

The Loudoun Valley Vikings swept top team and individual honors in the Class 4, Region C cross-country meet Wednesday at the John Handley 5K course in Winchester. The Tuscarora Huskies claimed boys' and girls' team crowns in the Class 5, Region C meet, also contested Wednesday at Oatlands Plantation in Leesburg.

Virginia High School League football power ratings

Loudoun teams occupy five of the top six spots in the VHSL Class 5, Region C football power ratings entering the final week of the regular season. Stone Bridge leads the way, followed by Broad Run, Falls Church, Tuscarora, John Champe and Potomac Falls. Dominion ranks third in Class 4, Region C, while Heritage, Woodgrove and Loudoun County hold spots six through eight.

Loudoun Varsity Sports Rewind: Oct. 23-28 games

The Loudoun County Raiders outlasted the Heritage Pride in five sets Saturday afternoon to secure the No. 1 regional seed from the Dulles District. Briar Woods, Tuscarora and Broad Run secured the top three spots at the 5C North Region competition cheer meet Saturday evening at Stone Bridge.
