Elizabeth Masters

Elizabeth Masters, 68, of Winchester, once voted Loudoun Woman of the Year, died May 2 at home.

A memorial service will be held Friday, May 9, at 2 p.m. at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Purcellville.

Mrs. Masters was born Sept. 13, 1939, in Brownsville, Pa., to the late John and Rose Matta.

She graduated from Dickinson College in 1961 and pursued graduate studies in history at the University of Maryland. She was a teacher, computer consultant, economic director and community servant.

She served as chairwoman for the Loudoun Valley Community Center and the Purcellville chapter of the Loudoun Food Closet. She was one of the founders of the Loudoun County Gifted Program. She served as Upper Loudoun Little League treasurer and was active in the League of Woman Voters. She also worked for the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Purcellville, serving as deacon, treasurer, superintendent of Sunday School and publisher of the church newsletter.

For her community service, she was voted Loudoun County Woman of the Year.

Mrs. Masters was preceded in death by her daughter, Jennifer.

Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Ronald Masters of Winchester; her three sons, Marc and John, both of Arlington, and Michael of Leesburg; and her brother, John Matta of Pittsburgh, Pa.

Memorial donations may be sent to the building fund of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 711 W. Main St., Purcellville, VA 20132.
