Sparks Light Up Two Ridges Basketball

By LoudounChamber

Capping an impressive eight-game winning streak, the Sparks won the Two Ridges Girls Grade 6-8 Basketball Tournament on Saturday, defeating the Storm 25-19. Led by 8th Graders Chantelle Polley and Aleighsha Webber, the Sparks come-from-behind season not only drew dismay from opponents, but encouragement from the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks, who wrote an encouraging letter to the players and provided tattoos to wear during the final game.

Coached by Southern California transplants Winfred Clarke & Marc Patterson, the focus all year was on developing as a team rather than individually. Combining offensive speed with stifling defense, the Sparks were the only team to defeat every team in their 9-team division, finishing the season 10-3. The team will also be well-represented at the 7th Annual Wayne Hussa Memorial All-Star Basketball Tournament. In addition to Polley and Webber, three standout sixth graders (Mia Clarke, Sydney Patterson, and McKensey Ziegler) will bring the Sparks spirit to the annual benefit tournament March 7-9.

The Two Ridges Basketball League is a not-for-profit youth basketball organization which operates in coordination with the Loudoun County Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PR&CS). T2RBL is totally supported and run by volunteers.
