Disney's Mulan Jr. at Heritage

By bwilson1

The recently released “Mulan Jr”. will be presented by Heritage High School March 6-8. The musical, taken from Disney’s “Mulan” movie was adapted for the stage by Bryan Louiselle and Patricia Cotter. Both the film and stage production are based on an original story called “Fa Mulan” by Robert D. San Souci.

Although different in storyline, from the Disney film, the stage production does include all of the memorable music such as “Written in Stone” and “I’ll Make a Man Out of You” from the film. The plot is based on traditional Chinese values of love, honor and obedience, as Mulan and her dragon friend Mushu take on the Huns planning to invade their land and abduct the Emperor of China.

New to the musical scene, “Mulan Jr.” has never been produced in Loudoun County. Heritage has commissioned nationally prominent Akron Costume Design Company to create the lavish Chinese wear they will use in the production. In addition, talented Heritage art students have painted the Chinese landscape for the backdrop of the show.
Choreography is prepared by Luisa Casuccio, Loudoun Ballet Company member.

Children and adults, are sure to delight in this colorful, action-packed musical comedy March 6,7 and 8 at 7:30PM in the school’s auditorium at 520 Evergreen Mill Road. General admission is $7.00 for children, students and adults. Advance tickets may be purchased during the lunch hour at Heritage. Tickets will also be available at the door.
