Bikes for the world

For the second year in a row, Destiny Church will collect bicycles – new, used, repairable, slightly battered – at Smart's Mill Middle School on U.S. business 15 north of Leesburg. Donated bikes will be collected from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 5.

All the bikes will go to The Village Bicycle Project in Ghana, where they will enable children to get to school, nurses to reach patients and villages to get to a workplace.

All bikes are welcome, and a donation – suggested $10 – to help get them shipped to where they will do the most good will be appreciated. In the three years since Bikes For the World was founded by the Washington Area Bicyclist Association, it has distributed 20,000 bikes to eight countries and to youth and adults in Washington, D.C.
