Vikings cruise into state tennis semifinals

The Loudoun Valley Vikings girls' tennis team continued their perfect season May 28 with a 5-0 victory at home against Douglas Freeman in the Group AAA State quarterfinal round.

The Vikings swept matches at No. 2 through No. 6 singles to clinch the victory with No. 1 singles player Kiersten Pappas still on the court.

Julianna Jacangelo, Kayla Sweet, Annie Adams, Cecily Mullen and Chelsea Verdin each swept their singles matches for the Vikings. Those five players won their matches by a combined score of 60-16.

Loudoun Valley will play Thomas Jefferson in the state semifinals at the Huntington Park Tennis Center in Newport News May 30 at noon. The winner of that match will play the winner of Friday's other semifinal, Mills Godwin vs. Frank Cox, in the state championship May 31 at noon.
