Paeonian Spring
Travelers, gatherers and celebrants
By Betty Shiflett
We folks are still traveling hither and yon.
Israel journey: Sandy Hackney had the most wonderful time as she went, with her church group, to Israel earlier this month. They were on the mountain tops -- she said the cable car was up 1,400 feet as they viewed the ruins of King Herod's palace. They rode a boat on the beautiful, peaceful Sea of Galilee. There was hilarity as they rode camels. And a shock of reality in seeing the bunkers the local people take shelter in when necessary. Lots of the folks were baptized in the Jordan River. An emotional time was spent as the group heard a detailed account of the crucifixion and visited the tomb where Jesus lay. Afterward, they celebrated the Lord's Supper. Sandy is grateful for the opportunity to share this experience.
Roses update: The Roses didn't go as far away. Barbara and Murray went to Panera Bread in Herndon to celebrate the anniversary of their daughter and son-in-law, Bev and Wright Horton. Wright was at work at the Geological Survey, but joined the folks for lunch.
Their other daughter, Pat Guyette and her husband, John, were here for Mother's Day, as was the Roses' granddaughter, Sarah Horton, who is with a Christian mission in Romania. This is wonderful. Glad the family could be together.
Anniversary: Anniversary greetings Saturday to Tom and Sandy Hackney.
Birthdays: Birthday greetings to Earl James that day, to Peacock Farm neighbor Cassie Kidd next Monday, and Patrick Kidd and Regina Zielke next Wednesday. We wish you all many more.
Thought for the Day: "There is no key to happiness; the door is always open -- come on in."
