Interfaith Relief hosts grand opening

Loudoun Interfaith Relief, Loudoun County’s largest food pantry, is hosting an open house Wednesday, June 4, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at its new location at 750 Miller Drive, Suite A-1.

The group's office was formerly on King Street in downtown Leesburg.

The event also will kick off the summer food drive, and be a meet-and-greet for volunteers and staff.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 5:30 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to bring canned fruit and canned meat to help stock the shelves.

Monument dedication

The United Daughters of the Confederacy will host a dedication ceremony May 31 at 1 p.m., celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Confederate monument on the Loudoun County Courthouse lawn. The monument -- a soldier wearing a Confederate uniform -- was erected in May 1908, in honor of Loudoun's Confederate soldiers. More than 1,100 Loudoun soldiers served in the Confederate Army. The United Daughters of the Confederacy restored the monument in June 2006.

The event will feature re-enactments and a raffle.

The rain date is June 1.
