Bluemont

Art deadlines, barbecue sale, a dinner-dance, uniform controversy, a Scouting trip and news needed

By Ruth Holland

Art deadline extension: Due to the shortage of entries, artists have until May 31 to submit artwork for the Bluemont Fair. The theme this year is Nature of Bluemont. Ideas include but are not limited to wildlife scenes, insects and horses. The artwork or part of it will be printed for memorabilia (shirts, mugs, stationary). Check out BluemontFair.com and click on poster contest for more information, or call 540-554-2367. The final posters will be 22 inches tall by 14 inches wide. The ease of making the art into a final product may have some bearing on the selection.

Barbecue sale: The HSCBA will be selling barbecue at Nalls Farm Market on Sunday- Monday, May 25-26. Serving will be 11:30 a.m.-4 p.m.

Dinner-dance: The HSCBA and the Clarke County Rotary are sponsoring a dinner-dance on May 31 at the Blue Ridge Fire Hall. The doors open at 6 p.m. with dinner being served about 7 p.m. The music will be supplied by No Drama. Dinner will include pork chops, roast beef, potatoes, green beans, salad, rolls and desserts.

Uniform controversy: Joe Wink appeared on Fox morning news last Thursday to give an opposing view over the controversy about wearing a military uniform to graduation. Joe had finished basic training the summer between junior and senior years of high school. He never questioned which to wear. Joe’s feelings were that they were two different events and that the uniform of each event should be the same as all the others. You looked good and I’m proud of you, Joe.

Scouting trip: My Scouting camping trip went well. Mother nature behaved. We didn’t have any rain and we did have comfortable temperatures. I must be getting older as I was exhausted for several days afterwards.

News needed: I am still not getting news on a regular basis about the people in the community and their families. This column is still about you, not a lot of special events from the other end of the county.

Birthdays: Belated birthday greetings to Anna Turner, May 17. Upcoming birthdays include Greg Poland, May 22, Mary Ann Nalls and Andrew Mengel, May 24.
