'Long Rider' comes to town
By Shannon Sollinger
Bill Inman and his faithful steed, Blackie, will start the last stage of their cross-country journey at the W&OD Trail behind Loudoun County High School in Leesburg May 24 at 9 a.m.
He is hoping, according to Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority Manager Paul McCray, that some local riders will join him for at least part of his journey as he heads east for Washington, D.C., and the Memorial Day parade May 26.
Inman left Lebanon, Oregon, in June to ride across the country and "uncover America." He wanted, he told Western Horseman magazine, to "show the real image of America, the one that shows positive and good things that make up our country."
Inman is a veteran of Desert Shield/Desert Storm, and is carrying letters of encouragement and thanks to give to veterans at the parade.
He and his wife, Brenda, who has paralleled his trek in a truck with a horse trailer, have kept a log of the journey on their Web site, www.uncoveringamerica.com.
