Paeonian Springs

Spring, Peggy's lilacs, Yockers' recovery, the farm tour and Douglass open house

Betty Shiflett

Sprung spring: Spring has really sprung. The blossoms are abundant and beautiful. As far as I know, we didn't get any frost those cold nights. Our friends east of here did; we think their gardens are okay though.

Peggy Poindexter: Our new neighbor, Peggy Poindexter, was out planting a lilac bush. We believe it will do well here. Our lilacs are prettier than ever this year. Peggy and her husband, Jeff bought Sally Miller's place. We know it will continue to be beautiful there.

Yockers on the mend: Glad to hear that Billy Yockers is out driving his pickup truck. He was seriously ill for a good while. We're praying for you.

Farm tour: The annual Loudoun County Farm Tour is coming up May 17-18. This is a free, self-directed driving tour around our country roads with opportunity to buy seedlings and plants, say hello to farm animals, greet spring babies, learn how food gets from the farm to your table and much more. Fun for the whole family.

Brochures for the tour, including a map and directions, are available at the Loudoun Heritage Farm Museum, County libraries, and the Loudoun Convention and Visitors Association in Leesburg. Request brochures by e-mail at info@LoudounFarms.org or call 703-777-0426 or 703-771-2170 to have them mailed to you.

Open house: Douglass Childcare is having an open house Saturday, May 19, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Douglas offers full- and part-time care for children ages 3-5. The program offers a safe, healthy learning environment. Healthy breakfasts and snacks are provided. Childcare hours are 7 a.m.-6:15 p.m. Monday-Friday. Call 703-771-5913 for more information.

Birthdays: Birthday greetings Friday to Mike Taylor, next Tuesday to Tim Stanley and next Wednesday to Marion Sloyan. Marion will be six years old. We wish you all many more.

Thought for the Day: "If I want my dreams to come true, I mustn't oversleep."
