The Loudoun Essence

College basketball reunion, Women’s Day celebration, Loudoun Douglass Alumni Association scholarship and happy Mother’s Day!

College basketball reunion: William and Shirley Washington of Purcellville traveled to Indianapolis for Mr. Washington’s 17th annual Kentucky State College basketball team reunion. Former Loudoun county residents Calvin and Carolyn Clark traveled from Charlotte, N.C., to meet them there. The trip was filled with lots of activities, and the couples enjoyed their visit in the beautiful city of Indianapolis. Contact the Washingtons if you want all of the details of their trip (540-338-7293).

Women’s Day Celebration: Mount Zion United Methodist Church will have its Women’s Day Celebration May 17-18 at the church at 12 North St. N.E. in Leesburg. This year’s theme is “Women Honoring God.” The celebration includes a Women’s Community Choir concert under the direction of Mrs. LaPearl Campbell-Smith, guest minister of music, on Saturday, May 17, at 3:30 p.m. On Sunday, May 18, at the 11 a.m. worship service, the guest speaker will be Mount Zion’s former first lady, Mrs. Maria Jeter.

Loudoun Douglass Alumni Association scholarship: Applications are now being accepted for the Loudoun Douglass Alumni Association Scholarship. Please contact Mary Randolph at 703-777-8270 to request an application. The scholarship deadline is June 1 and all applications must be postmarked by this date.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Mother’s Day weekend, and I want to send an extra special wish to my mother, Mary Randolph, who I love so much. Thank you for everything.
