Mother's Day flowers, Spring Farm Tour, Douglass open house, RHVFD, Heritage Day, donations, HCA fundraising

By Sue Ulland

Mother’s Day flowers: Remember Mom with beautiful flowers sold by the Round Hill Volunteer Fire Department all day Friday-Saturday, May 9-10.

Spring Farm Tour: The Loudoun County Department of Economic Development invites you to spend a weekend in the country during Loudoun County’s spring farm tour Saturday-Sunday, May 17-18, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. both days.

This is a free, self-guided driving tour down country roads to 31 county farms, nurseries and wineries. Visit www.LoudounFarms.org. for a detailed map and more tour information. This is a family-oriented, fun-filled, educational affair.

Open house: The Douglass Community Center invites you to its childcare open house Saturday, May 19, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet staff, tour the facilities and inquire about openings. The center offers full-time and part-time childcare for children ages 3-5 and provides a safe, healthy learning environment. Healthy breakfasts and snacks are provided. Program hours are Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-6:15 p.m. The facilities are located at 405 E. Market St., Leesburg. Call 703-771-5913 for more information.

RHVFD: The Round Hill Volunteer Fire Department has scheduled its annual open house Saturday, May 24, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. All are welcome.

Heritage Day volunteers: The Purcellville Preservation Association needs help with Heritage Day scheduled for Saturday, May 17. Interested persons should either go to the Train Station that day for assignment or to the volunteer meeting Wednesday, May 7, at 6 p.m. Volunteer opportunities include parade lineup assistance, photography, stage hands, setup/cleanup and parking. For more information e-mail the PPA at ppa-org@hotmail.com.

Donations needed: The Ladies Board of Inova Loudoun Hospital is seeking donations for its 70th annual rummage sale scheduled for Oct. 17-18 at the Morven Park Equestrian Center just north of Leesburg off U.S. 15 north. All proceeds benefit the hospital. To donate, call 703-771-2985 and leave a message. A member will return your call and set up a convenient time and place to meet. Help the Ladies' Board celebrate 70 years of giving to the community by donating your usable items to its rummage sale.

HCA fundraising: The HCA Fourth of July celebration will take place Saturday, July 5, at 5 p.m. The HCA relies on generous contributions for this family-oriented, fun festivity. The fund has about $1,600 now and, therefore, the HCA needs to raise an additional $4,000. The HCA’s annual membership drive is also under way. To join or renew your membership and/or to make a donation to HCA or its fireworks fund, please use the form on the Web site www.hillsborova.org and mail it in (HCA, 37016 Charles Town Pike, Purcellville, VA 20132). The HCA Web site is a great place to keep informed of upcoming events.

Birthdays: Happy birthday wishes this week go out to Katherine O’Rourke, Jeff Hickman, Jonathan Johnson, Roy Case Jr., Zoe Sarra, Matthew Waters, Stephan Mace, Crystal Harris, Abigail McIntyre and Jessica Pearson.

Mother's Day: We wish all mothers, be they great-grandmothers, grandmothers, mothers, first-time moms or mothers-to-be, a wonderful Mother’s Day. Enjoy your special day.
