Four Vikings to play college football

Four members of the Loudoun Valley High School football team recently finalized their college plans.

Wayne Savage, Jack Devine, Josh Phipps and Cooper Barth have committed to play college football beginning in the fall.

Savage, a first-team All-Cedar Run selection at defensive tackle, will play at Bridgewater College in Bridgewater.

Savage led the Vikings last fall with six tackles for a loss. He made 35 solo tackles and assisted on 18 others.

Devine and Phipps are both headed to Hampden-Sydney College in Farmville.

Devine was solid on both sides of the ball during his senior season. He was second behind Savage with five tackles for a loss. Devine also rushed for 268 yards and three touchdowns in limited carries and caught nine passes.

Phipps, a starter at center and defensive end, registered 18 tackles, including four for a loss. He assisted on 17 tackles.

Barth, a dual threat quarterback, has committed to Carnegie Mellon University in Pennsylvania. Barth completed 114 passes for 1,005 yards and six touchdowns as a senior. He also rushed for 412 yards and eight scores.
