A home to remember

By Hannah Hager

The bustling streets of Leesburg are just outside the front door, but the atmosphere inside this home is all relaxation. The front porch is perfect for enjoying warm weather with stone flooring large enough for outdoor furniture. Inside, sunlight streams in through an array of windows, making the entire house feel like the outdoors is welcomed in.

Walking through the front door, you face a wide staircase that is perfectly suited for moving large furniture to the second level. Intricate paneling lines the entire staircase leading to three large windows that usher light into the upper-level hallway.

Back downstairs, the formal living room is to the right of the entrance. Floor-to-ceiling windows give the room added space, and the chair rails with shadow box trim lend an elegance that continues into the formal dining room. A curved column entrance with a keystone center divides the two rooms.

Returning again to the main foyer, you find a hardwood-floor hallway leading to a half bathroom and coat closet on the right. The floor plan opens up to the family room on the left and the kitchen on the right. The family room is sectioned off by carpeting and features a marble-lined gas fireplace on an angled wall that is the centerpiece of the room. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the room bring in sunlight that continues to the breakfast area and kitchen.

The breakfast area, with views of the backyard, is connected to the large kitchen and sectioned off by a large center island with granite countertops and cooktop. A white double oven and side-by-side refrigerator match the white cabinetry, giving the kitchen a uniform feel.

The owners have meticulously maintained the home’s backyard; a stone wall encloses a flower garden and a beautiful Japanese maple tree. Just beyond a curved arbor at the center of the yard is a small vegetable garden. The backyard also has a detached two-bay garage.

Back inside, the master bedroom on the upper level features a study with a built-in cherry bookcase and desk. A curved transom window brings in light, and the large master suite features a walk-in closet, soak tub, separate shower and sectioned-off toilet. Down the hall, two more bedrooms share a full bathroom.

This home is perfect for a family that longs to be downtown but loves privacy.
