Gourmet dining beckons in Beacon Hill
Turkey day may have passed, but your opportunity to own a home with a masterful kitchen hasn't. Arguably the most outstanding room in the home, the kitchen has several name-brand appliances and plenty of open floor space for serving – and pleasing – the crowds.
This Beacon Hill house has all the makings of a classic, Craftsman-style home. What makes it truly spectacular, however, are the fine details. To the left of the front door is the large formal living room and the dining room at the back of the house. Light hardwood floors are throughout the main level, but the two rooms are separated by columns. Wood plantation shutters and four-tier crown molding in both rooms add a touch of class, exceeding that of other homes. The dining room is extended 5 feet beyond the model home's normal square footage.
Through French doors and to the right of the front door is the main-level office, which is Verizon Fios-connected. It has a five-sided bay window, and built-in bookcases cover an entire back wall.
The main foyer, which includes a powder room, leads back to the kitchen, breakfast area and sunroom.
The high-end, name-brand appliances include a Sub-Zero refrigerator (that also includes an ice and water distributor on the outside door – a rarity in Sub-Zeros), a Viking stove with six-burner range, heat lamps and an up/down draft, and an Asko dishwasher.
A sunroom with tiled floors has a window surround and doors that lead out to the back deck. The family room features 9-foot ceilings, a built-in entertainment center and a wood-burning stone fireplace. The mudroom/laundry room is also in this communal area.
The back staircase, excluding the main staircase in the foyer, leads to the second-story bedrooms. All five bedrooms have a private, full bathroom and ceiling fans.
The master suite has a sitting room with columns in the entry to the master bedroom. A three-sided, glass-enclosed fireplace warms the entire suite. Steps lead up to his and her walk-in closets and a cosmetic counter. The master bedroom has two vanities, a soak tub, stand-up shower and a closet toilet.
The lower level boasts a large recreation area – one room has a stone fireplace – and a walk-out to the backyard. A full bathroom and what could be used as an in-law or au-pair suite or guest bedroom is also in the space. The lower level also affords plenty of storage space.
Don't pass up the chance to see this home's gathering places, especially the epicurean kitchen.
