Donation increase, Plaster update, Wink reunion, honors and community center activities

By Ruth Holland

Donation increase: As I said in my last column, the Horseshoe Curve Benevolent Association presented a check to the Blue Ridge Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad on July 21. The amount of the final check was $7,300. When I wrote the column, the amount was only $7,015. At the last minute, someone donated enough to bring it up to $7,300. A raffle for a shotgun will be drawn in mid-August. This shotgun was donated to the fundraiser at the last minute -- this the reason for the delay.

The Plasters: Ann and Henry Plaster have returned from the annual trip to Maine. I haven't seen or talked to Ann, but I understand that she hurt her back again. Not sure if it was just before they left or while away. Hope you're feeling better soon, Ann.

Wink reunion: Jim and Tracee Wink, along with son Joe, spent several days in Philadelphia for a Wink family reunion. According to Tracee, not all of the Winks were there, but about 60 of them did attend. Along with visiting friends and relatives, they managed to do a bit of sightseeing. Tracee has some strange pictures of The Glass House, with walls and floor made of pieces of glass and bottles. The also crossed over to New Jersey and toured a battleship that was docked there. Since I have been on large ships before, I could understand Tracee's comments about trying to climb up and down the ladders/stairs.

Honors: Laurel Snyder has been named to the dean's list at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts in New York City. She is a third-year dance major. Gosh, I remember her as a little girl.

Community center: Check out the Web site for the Bluemont Community Center. There are a number of programs for all ages. There is also information on the child-care program, preschool programs, elementary programs, adult programs and much more. If you are looking for an enjoyable summer camp, please click on their summer camp guide. They offer Pony Camps, Camp on the Road and Adventure Camp Bluemont. If you have any questions, please call the Bluemont Community Center at 540-554-8643.
