Cool Ag Happenings
For farmers and other folks who like to be on the "cutting edge," the Loudoun Agricultural Development office has coordinated with some other local agencies to have a bus trip to the Beltsville Agricultural Research Farm in Maryland on November 7th. Interested parties should contact the Ag office at the Loudoun County Department of Economic Development to sign up. The cost is a bargain at $25.00 which includes the bus fare and lunch!
For gardeners and fruit & veggie farmers the Loudoun County Extension office is holding a Beneficial Insect Field Day at the Blue Ridge Center on September 17th. To learn more about the event and to sign up, contact the Loudoun Extension Office or visit them at 30 Catoctin Circle SE in Leesburg.
There's also still time to sign up for rain barrel workshops put on by the Loudoun Soil and Water Conservation District. The first one is fast approaching on Monday Sept. 24th at 10:00 AM at the Loudoun Farm Heritage Museum in Sterling. Contact Suzie Brown at LSWCD to sign up at 703-777-2075. The cost is $35.00 and includes a rain barrel to build at the workshop and take home. Its a bargain considering smaller rain barrels usually go for over $100.00! Additioanl workshops are available in October, including weekend dates, so if you can't make the 24th, call and sign up for a later date.
Watch this space to keep up with Loudoun Agricultural events, and let us know if you have a farm event you want to publicize.
