The Cornerstone Chapel Has a Dynamic Outreach Ministry

The Cornerstone Chapel located in Leesburg has been supporting the Good Shepherd Alliance (GSA) for some time now.  This dynamic Outreach Ministry recently painted the entire exterior of the 7,000 square foot Center of Hope in Ashburn.  An inspection and caulking of a number of windows was also accomplished.  We at the GSA were amazed at the quality of work and the speed with which the job was completed.  We appreciate the Cornerstone Chapel’s willingness to serve others.

Previous Support Efforts

In the spring or 2006, the Ministry took on the project of interior painting and carpet cleaning for a 3,500 square foot house turned temporary homeless family shelter off of Gum Springs Road in South Loudoun.

In October of 2006, the Ministry demolished a 100 year old house interior in Purcellville to prepare the facility for a total renovation which led to the establishment of Mary’s House of Hope in 2007; a house and refuge for homeless pregnant women.

In May 2007, the Ministry conducted the initial site work at the Ashburn facility, removed an old wooden fence, cut down 10 dead trees, demolished three obsolete and dilapidated outbuildings and cleared a half acre of overgrown brush.

In October and November 2007 the Ministry performed a demolition of the building interior to make way for a total modernization of the Ashburn Center of Hope facility.  Two storage buildings were also renovated to be used to maintain donated items for Hopes Treasures retail sales.

Additionally, Cornerstone Chapel hosted the first homeless Christmas dinners for the Good Shepherd Alliance residents and staff in 2006 and 2007 with 60 to 80 people attending.  Cornerstone is planning to continue this great event in 2008.

Joy Trickett, the GSA Chair for the Board of Directors thanked Cornerstone Chapel for their outstanding support of the area homeless and indigent population.  She praised the wonderful team from Cornerstone Chapel Outreach Ministry stating, “The recent paint job is just beautiful. I was there today and all looks so fresh and clean and shining for Him.  Thank you so much for your dedication to “Him” and the love you have for those living in need."

Churches like Cornerstone are finding that formal partnerships with their local homeless shelters, Chamber of Commerce, food bank, community thrift shop or public school can make a much more powerful impact on the un-churched than they ever could alone. Successful partners complement each other, overcoming weaknesses and highlighting strengths. Cornerstone Chapel is a ministry that has succeeded in building community partnerships and their example can assist you to discover how your church and a local organization can be made better working together.
